Through the changes of our society, working conditions and labor market situation, this paper will deal with the major alterations and differences of job prospects of alumni in Austria. Labor market researches, especially from AMS and BMWFW offer a close look on how this situation has changed through the past 50 years. Therefore, this paper will show the major changes over the past years from generation X to generation Y following the main research question of: “To what extend does effective networking change the entry into professional life of alumni in the past 20 years”. Further on, to illustrate the major changes in recent years, generation X and generation Y will be compared. Because both generations grew up in different technological ages, further scopes of the topic of networking will be discussed. The respondents (in a qualitative research setting) will be asked about their personal definition of networking, their job search behaviors, how they stay in contact, as well as if there is a significant relation between social networks and a successful career entry.
