Project management is a discipline which plans, monitors and controls a project. Especially on bigger projects software tools are used to facilitate this process. These project management tools bring many helpful features, which facilitate the work of project managers. However, what they are missing is a direct connection to other software tools used within the the project. Tools such as software development tools, CAD tools, spreadsheet and word processing tools are examples therefor. Such a direct tool connection is important, because it eases progress monitoring and controlling. The goal of this thesis is, to establish this connection between a project management tool and other development tools and to derive new possibilities for the project management. Through this connection of the tools it will be possible that a project manager has a better overview over the tasks and progresses. So when a new artifact (for example a new function within source code) is created or another one is changed, it is possible to view this action in the project management tool exactly at the corresponding planned task. Through this overview, it will be possible to detect tasks which are late. These new possibilities bring many advantages for the project management side and also for the development side, for example, that time and effort for otherwise necessary communication can be lessened. It may also be possible to avoid that a task runs late, trough the early detection of difficulties while development. The usefulness of this thesis is evaluated subsequently with the conclusion, that it is really an advantage for the project manager, if the development processes are directly visible within the project management tool and if they can be monitored.
