In product development projects, especially in large ones, good coordination of the involved engineers' work is important to improve the quality of the results and the effectiveness of the development process. Best practices from successful development projects are formalised to create design methods. These are applied to improve future projects. The cheap availability of computing power promises to speed up development processes, but by now the conceptual phase of product development is not supported well by software tools.
During this thesis, a concept for a badminton playing drone has been developed relying heavily on software support to explore possible designs. This design project has then been analysed for strengths and weaknesses of the tools and methods used. A design method has been developed which retains those strengths and avoids the weaknesses. In the last part of the thesis, this method was then applied to a second design project targeting the optimisation of an existing drone design.
